I work in a library right now. It’s a local public library and I love the job.
The people I work with though? Different story.
So last night a coworker and I should have left at 5 pm. She clocked out but didn’t get up from the desk. This is a big no no because in the handbook you cannot be up front and not clocked in. I didn’t clock out because we had a line of patrons and someone needed to help them. My boss and another coworker were supposed to be up there at 5 so we could go. By 5:20 my boss finally wanders up to the front.
Here is where I wonder if I am the asshole…
Instead of jumping on a computer to help he and my coworker get into a discussion about me. How I haven’t clocked out yet, how I am past 5 clocking out, how I am “new” to a management position, how he is going to have to “fix” my mistake.
They are talking about me right behind me with patrons right there. My coworker is all up in arms about how I stayed clocked in to make sure there was someone on the desk. She was talking a mile a minute and all about me.
She is 74.
My boss was appeasing her like you would a toddler who was throwing a tantrum in public.
He is 50.
Am I the asshole for getting upset that they were talking about me in front of patrons? And he was discussing with her how he was going to “talk to me because that behavior cannot happen”?
First of all, lower your voice.
Second of all you don’t need to discuss anything about me to another employee!
So chat, am I the asshole?
Love you!
